Washer EarringsThese earrings are designed to have two small washers on the front and three small washers hanging from the back.
Youll be drilling holes in the washers and connecting them with jump rings. Remember these important points when drilling washers:
- Use a drill bit suitable for metals.
- Clamp the washer tightly to a piece of scrap wood so you can use both hands to control the drill.
- Wear eye protection when drilling metal.
Materials:
drill
small clamp and scrap wood
1/16" drill bit for metals
small, lightweight washers
glass beads
jump rings
earring posts and backs
22-gauge wire
needle-nose pliers
contact adhesive such as Goop or E6000
For each earring:
- Drill a hole near the edge of five washers.
- Glue your earring post to the back of one washer opposite the hole and set aside (figure A).
- For the remaining washers, drill a second hole directly opposite the first one.
To make the earring front:- Use a jump ring to link a second washer to the washer with the earring post (figure B).
- Wire one or more small beads to the bottom hole to finish.
To make the earring back:
- Wrap wire around the earring back, leaving a small loop (figure C).
- Use jump rings to link the remaining three washers to the earring back.
- Finish off the bottom with small beads.
Washer PendantsYou can make eye-catching pendants using the same techniques above. Just connect an assortment of washers with jump rings and beads and use a jump ring to add it to a strand of beads, necklace chain or leather stranding.
For a no-drill pendant, wrap a large, flat washer with contrasting wire or decorative string, leaving a loop at the top. Use the loop to attach the pendant to a strand of beads, necklace chain or leather stranding.
