    Materials:

    clay
    instant glue
    neutral colored feathers
    nylon cord

    Tools:

    craft knife
    clay blade
    clay-dedicated pasta machine
    ceramic tile work surface
    oven
    wooden skewer

    Zebra Chain

    1. Condition clay thoroughly.

    2. Roll 3/4 of a block of white clay through the pasta machine on the thickest setting. Cut the sheet in half, and then stack each sheet on top of the other to create a sheet of double thickness.

    3. Roll 1/2 of a block of black clay through the pasta machine, and then lay on top of the sheet of white clay.

    4. Manipulate the sides of the stack by pressing and squeezing to create an uneven stack that is tapered on one end.

    5. Place another black sheet on the opposite side of the white clay—covering only half of the sheet.
