Cleaning Sterling Silver JewelryNote: When cleaning jewelry, use common sense. Don't attempt to clean anything with loose stones, and don't soak jewelry for long amounts of time in water. If in doubt, take it to your jeweler for advice. - This is not for pieces with stones in them. Lay a sheet of aluminum foil, shiny side up, in a heat proof container. Lay the jewelry in the container on the fold. It is important each piece of jewelry is touching the aluminum foil, so don't pile the jewelry pieces on top of each other.
- Pour boiling water over them (figure A) and immediately add two tablespoons of baking soda and one tablespoon of salt.
- Let this sit for a few minutes and then use tongs to remove the jewelry (figure B) because it will be really hot.
- Rinse the silver off in cold water and buff the pieces with a soft cloth.
