Scheherazade EarringsNote: Each earring will be small at the top, and get larger at the bottom. There are four rows of connectors for each earring, with one more loop on the bottom than the top. Wire-wrapped beads join each row of connectors, and there are wire-wrapped dangles at the bottom. - Lay out jigs on the WigJig, and create the connectors (figure A).
- When the connectors are complete, remove from the WigJig, place on a steel block and hammer with a nylon or rawhide hammer (figure B) to temper and flatten. The rawhide won't scratch the metal and hammering tempers and toughens it so it won't be so malleable.
Build the earrings as follows: - Wire wrap one garnet and connect to ear wire; leave bottom unwrapped.
- WigJig a connector with one loop and two down. Wire wrap garnet to top loop.
- Connect and wire wrap two blue crystals to the down loops of the connector.
- WigJig a connector with two loops up and three down. Wire wrap blue crystals to top loops.
- Connect and wire wrap three garnets to the three down loops.
- WigJig a connector with three loops up and four down. Wire wrap garnets to the top loops.
- Connect and wire wrap four blue crystals to the four down loops.
- WigJig a connector with four loops up and five down. Wire wrap blue crystals to the top loops.
- Wire wrap dangles for the five down loops:
- On either end: gold headpin and pearl between two garnets.
- Next in on each side: wire wrapped same: pearl between two garnets. Complete with headpin and one garnet from the bottom.
- In the center: wire wrapped pearl between two garnets, completed with headpin and blue crystal and garnet.
- Using round nose pliers, create a small loop in the 26-gauge gold wire and rest it on the jig at one end; loop the wire around the remaining jigs, and finish off the end with another loop.
