We've all had some mishaps in the kitchen or dining room where some of our favorite china was shattered to smithereens. And some of the china may have some sentimental value to you, too. So, the last thing you want to do is throw the pieces of broken china away! 1. Place a thick towel on your work surface.

    2. Place china plate into plastic bag.

Safety Tip: Put on protective eyewear.

    3. Use a hammer to break the dish into small pieces that are appropriate for jewelry (figure A).

    4. Pull a few nice pieces out of bag.

    5. Place pieces onto waxed paper.

    6. Cover all sharp edges with dimensional adhesives (figure B).

    7. Let dry until clear (1-1/2 to 3 hours).

    8. Place foil over glued edges of second china piece, use fingers to burnish the foil into the glue.

Note: The foil has a dull side and that is the side that you put next to the glue.

    9. Repeat until all the edges are foiled.

    10. Glue a pin back to the back of the foiled china piece.

    11. If you want to add other embellishments to your pin, you can open up a clutch and glue it to the back (figure C) of the pin.

    12. Once the clutch has been glued on, you can attach your embellishment to the loop (figure D)

Tip from Jackie: You can find chipped pieces of china, etc. at Flea Markets that you could turn into beautiful pieces of jewelry.
