- Remove from mold while clay is still warm.
- Put the box on a medium thick piece of clay and trim around the bottom with an X-Acto knife. Press it in place (figure A).
- Cut a strip of clay for the bottom edge. Put in place and smooth the seams.
- Cut a similar strip for the top lip.
- Coat the upper part of the box with Repel Gel and put the strip around the upper edge, smoothing seams (figure B). Bake for 30 minutes.
Note: The reason you only put the Repel Gel around the top strip is that you need for the top lip to come off once it is baked. This lip is going to be the top and you don't want the top to come flying off, so the lip holds the top on. - Remove the lip from the box (figure C). Make a cover for it in the same way you made the box bottom by putting it on a piece of clay, trimming it out and smoothing it all the way around.
- Cut shapes with the Kemper cutters and place them on the box bottom and lid to cover the seam, and decorate as desired (figure D).
- If you want to add embellishment, you can take a little ball of clay and squeeze a Japanese coin on top (figure E)
- Put another coat of Repel Gel around the top and edge of the box and bake all together for 30 minutes.
- Drill two holes in the bottom and two holes in the lid, string the cord, and it is done.
