- Color tin with paint pen all around the edge (save the packaging the mint tin came in).
- Measure the wrist with a tape measure.
- Cut the leather 1-1/2" wide by the length of the wrist and add 2". For example, 1-1/2" x 7" + 2" = 9".
- On one end cut a 1" tab, place the buckle on, place the "D" rings on, and glue the tab to the back side (figure A).
- On the other end measure 2" down and 1/2" in on each side -- this will form the strap/buckle around the edge.
- Glue leather/vinyl to the back and trim side to fit.
- Pull the lid off of the tin and place the bottom of the tin on a wood block.
- With a hammer and nail punch three holes -- two holes at one end and one hole in the center of the other end. (figure B). These are the connector holes, so make sure the holes, on the end that has two holes, are even.
- Set the tin over the center of the leather/vinyl and mark the holes.
- Remove the tin and punch holes with 1/16" hole punch on the marks.
- Line up the tin holes with the leather holes and push mini-brads up through the hole.
- To make a template trace out the lid on the acetate from the mint tin packaging and set aside. Cut the template out, place in onto the double-sided tape, and then set it aside for now.
- Using the die cut machine, cut out the desired letter out of another piece of leather/vinyl.
- Remove the letter from the leather and turn it over. Place the acetate over the letter (figure C) and trace around the edge and then cut out the letter.
- Cover the lid of the tin with super tape, and carefully line up the cutout letter onto the lid.
- Place gemstone or mini-marbles inside of the cutout letter by putting the lid in a bowl of beads and rubbing the beads into the letter.
- Slide the lid top back onto the lid bottom (figure D), and add more gemstones to the wristband with Gem Tac.
- Cut out a piece of leather/vinyl to fit in the bottom of the inside of the tin, attach with double-side adhesive (this will give a nice finishing look to the box).
- Another idea is to cover a small heart-shaped tin box with tiny beads all around the sides. Put a leather heart on top and an initial. Make a leather loop and wear this pendant on a leather cord (figure E).
