- Print out the pattern from Stitch Painter. It prints out the grid for you and you can work from that, or you can print the row-by-row summary. You can even make yourself a small ruler (figure A) and print it out and it will allow you to mark your place on the pattern. Attach to the grid with removable sticky tape so you can move it as you go.
- Pour out piles of beads on a working surface. Thread a size 10 beading needle with three yards of size B Nymo thread (double and wax).
Tip: To wax your thread, just place the thread on the bar of wax and hold it with your thumb as you run it over the wax (figure B). Wax prevents your thread from tangling as you work.
- Rows one through three:
- String first two rows -- in this case, 40 dark green beads (hold onto tail, or use a stop bead).
- String third row:
- Add first bead of row three, turn (through one, skip two, through one).
- Work across (add two, through one, skip two, through one) -- pull on both tail and needle threads with even tension.
- Rows four through 130:
- Add last bead of current row, and first bead of next row -- turn.
- Work herringbone stitch across (add two beads, through two beads).
- Finish:
- Work picots across ends (add one bead, through two). This gives your piece a nice scalloped edge (figure C).
- Sew on Velcro, hide stitches in beads.
