    1. Take the three different fabrics and cut two squares measuring 4" out of one piece, two squares measuring 3-1/2" out of another piece, and two squares measuring 2-1/2" out of the last piece of material.

Tip: Different colors and styles of fabric add more interest to the finished pin. You can use liquid starch to stiffen the flowers and make them easier to work with.

    2. Fold fabric square in half and then in half again. Then, fold corner to corner making a triangle.

Tip: You may want to practice using paper or scrap fabric until you feel comfortable making the flower.

    3. Hold onto the center point of the triangle (figure A) -- it is important to hold it at the bottom corner that is closed, not the open end.

    4. Cut with small scissors about 1/4" up (figure B) -- it is important to start cutting 1/4" up, or your flower would fall apart.

    5. Cut in shape of petal all the way around, stopping about 1/2" up. Open the material up and this will be your flower shape (figure C). Repeat with each square.

    6. Layer and stagger the flower starting with large piece, medium piece, small piece and then repeat with large piece, middle piece and small piece.

    7. Sew button in the middle of flowers (figure D) and set aside.

Tip: For some added elegance, you can cut a small circle (about 2") out of tulle and place in the center of the flower and then sew the button in the center of that.

    8. Turn the green velvet fabric over to the back and draw some leaves. Cut out one small leaf shape and two larger leaves from the green velvet fabric. Clip just the edges of the large leaves to add texture and detail, and then fluff the edges of the leaves with your fingers.

    9. Glue the large leaves to the back of the flower with Fabri-Tac. Glue them so that the tips can be seen from the front of the pin.

    10. Glue pin in the back of the flower with Fabri-Tac.

    11. Take your small leaf and place in between the pin and glue down (figure E). This will add a nice finish to the pin piece.
