Designer Tamara Berg is an expert on English hallmarks. Here, she uses a hallmark as a pendant on a unique pearl necklace.Materials: 22-Gauge sterling wire Freshwater pearls Sterling clasp 3 jump rings English hallmark (medal) Wire cutters Flat nosed pliers Round nosed pliers
- Cut a manageable length of wire, approximately 5".
- Create a small loop at one end of the wire using round nose pliers, making the loop the diameter of the tip of your pliers.
- Feed straight end of wire through pearl until it rests next to initial loop.
- Use round nose pliers to create another loop near pearl, making sure pearl sits snugly between the two loops.
- Trim excess wire with wire cutters.
- Use flat nose pliers to close and align loop if necessary.
- Use the pliers to create a second loop and feed through first link. Feed pearl onto wire, then squeeze loop closed to interlock the two links (figure A). Repeat until desired length is achieved (figure B), then attach jump rings and clasp.
- To attach pendant, open jump ring, thread through pendant and onto necklace at desired location, and close jump ring.
