    Crescent Stitch

    1. Attach canvas to the stretcher bars. Find the center of canvas and count 9 threads out to the right in order to begin design.

    2. Begin by stitching the crescent stitches (figure A) throughout the pattern switching threads as shown on your chart. This same crescent stitch is flipped in different directions to form the pattern, but in all cases it is the exact same stitch.

    3. Follow Diagram A.

    Rhodes Stitch

    1. The Rhodes stitch creates a finished square (figure B) around the crescent stitch, but still on the inside design. It appears on this example in two sizes.

    2. Follow Diagram B.

Cushion Stitch and Finishing the Edges

    1. The Cushion Stitch fills the areas left exposed around the perimeter of the design (figure C).

    2. Add beads and pearls onto the canvas at the spots indicated on your Master Chart. The rows of beads are attached simply by coming up with your thread at the beginning of the row, stringing the beads and pearls and coming down on the other side of the row.

    3. Remove your canvas from the stretcher bars and cut around the needlepoint design, leaving ½" border (figure D). Fold the excess canvas back leaving two threads of the canvas showing around the perimeter of the cuff. Using one of the DMC fibers in your design, whipstitch around the perimeter of the cuff, covering the exposed threads and thus holding down the folded back canvas.

    4. Using a doubled sewing thread, sew the copper wire onto the back of the cuff, along the edges of the whip stitched border. This wire allows the cuff to be molded into shape. See Diagram C for the placement of the wire.

    Adding Backing and Beaded Edges

    1. Sew UltraSuede backing to the back of the cuff. A sewing machine can be used for this part. Attach beads, pearls and crystals to the edges of the cuff. See Diagram D details on how to attach these to the edges.

  • Attach a clasp to the ends of the cuff. In this example, a magnetic clasp is used.
