The finished Asian choker -- complete with tassel.
Guest Miranda Habeeb demonstrates her technique for creating an embellished fabric choker with the exotic beauty of the Orient.

    Materials:

    Remnants of silk brocade
    Thread
    1/4-yard of 3/4" ribbon
    2 black buttons
Approximately 1/2 yard of 1" elastic
Black elastic (hat elastic) to make loops for button
    Temporary adhesive
    Hot fix rhinestones
    Bejeweler tools
    Sewing machine or serger

    1. Measure the elastic around your neck. Leave about 2 inches longer than size needed.

    2. Cut a long strip of one color and 8 strips measuring 1-1/4" x 3-1/2" of the other.

    3. Serge the pieces together or use your sewing machine; remember, seam allowance is only 1/8" when you work with a serger.

    4. Iron all the pieces flat, spreading the seams apart.

    5. Spray adhesive on the fabric and place your strip of elastic in the middle.

    6. Fold material on one side over the elastic trim. Then, iron 1/4" of the other half as a seam, then fold over the other half.

    7. Fold the seam over and tack for a clean look.

    8. Finish the rough edges with ribbon of choice.

    9. Add the buttons of your choice and decorate choker with Swarovski beads, if desired. You can use the hot fix which already has glue on them

    10. Finally, add tassel to front of choker.
