    1. Choose wire that is strong enough to withstand daily use. It needs to be heavy enough to hold ID/glasses, but not too thick so bead can be strung through. Measure the length you need, and make it long enough to convert into a double-strand necklace. Add two to four inches length over what you might want as insurance; you can adjust the final length later.

    2. Place clear tape on the ends of the wire so as not to lose beads.

    3. Starting in center, string on a few simple/less expensive (seed) beads. These will rest on the back of your neck and won’t usually be seen. Use neutrals for work or colors you wear often, and for multi-purpose wear. Put your more expensive beads where they’ll be seen and don’t forget texture as well as color and size.

    4. Remember to balance the design on each side, even if you may not really want perfect symmetry. Place some of the nicest beads at the end to show off and finish off with glamorous, showy beads (figure A).

    5. Crimp one side of necklace to toggle of choice (figure B).

    6. Put the ID onto the holder. Depends on your ID type; the easiest is one that has a pull on it.

    7. The ID can be looped around as a double strand necklace for evening wear, clipping an inexpensive latch clasp that can be purchased at local stores.

    8. Adding on a pendant in front can change the look for another option.
