    After the organic materials burn away, all that's left is a fine silver piece -- as shown on this unique bracelet.
    Jewelry artist Kathy Davis demonstrates her technique for turning art clay into fine silver embellishments.

    Materials:

    Art clay silver clay, paste and syringe
    Fine silver wire - 20 gauge
    Beads
    Sterling silver wire - 20 gauge
    Liver of Sulfur
    Wire tools - round nose, chain nose and flush cutter
    Small file
    Olive oil, rubber stamp
    Small butane torch
    Firing brick
    Wire brush
    Burnisher

    1. Form clay and texture with rubber stamp (figure A).

    2. Prepare fine silver wire - bend and cut.

    3. Insert wire into clay, then use paste to secure the wires (figure B).

    4. Use syringe to decorate on one or both sides (figure C).

    5. Allow to dry completely, then sand as needed with small file.

    6. Place clay piece on fire brick and fire with torch for 2-3 minutes.

    7. Quench pieces with water.

    8. Finish the surface with wire brush, followed by burnisher (figure D).

    9. Add wire to beads, connect links to beads and add clasp.

    10. To create an antiqued appearance, use liver of sulfur on the clay beads if desired.
