  • Diamond Care
  • From "Jewelry Making"
    episode DJMK-113

    PHOTO

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but proper care and cleaning are the most valuable companions to diamonds.
Host Jackie Guerra and guest Marion Halfacre cover a few diamond do's and don'ts.

    • Cleaning agents: soft soap or mild detergent, window cleaner, toothpaste.

    • Where to clean: over a bowl, not an open drain! Make sure to rinse very well over the bowl.

    • It is definitely safe to scrub a diamond: use a toothbrush and scrub hard to loosen dirt. It won’t harm the metal. Avoid using steel wool.

    • Never put your ring in hot water and boil it. That is the worst thing you could do.

    • Have your ring checked often to be sure the prongs are snug. Our active lifestyles are hard on all jewelry. This service is free at a reputable jewelry store.

    • Keep your diamonds in a safe place.
