  • A Look at Findings and Finishings
  • From "Jewelry Making"
    episode DJMK-108

    PHOTO

Each piece shown owes its unique character to a variety of findings and finishings.
Sharon Bateman and host Jackie Guerra discuss some of the "finishing" touches that make an ordinary jewelry creation into an extraordinary piece of wearable art.

    • Findings are the hardware which enhance a piece of jewelry: clasps, earhooks, jumprings, spacers, crimps, toggles or terminals. Choose findings by their design – they should balance and improve the jewelry – and by their function – they need to work well and be secure.

    • Finishing is the use of findings to complete the piece of jewelry into a satisfying and beautiful object. Since you have spent so much time MAKING the jewelry, you need to make sure you have the finished look to the piece and also you don’t want it to break and lose your masterpiece.
