Wire-Wrapped Birthstone Hoop Earrings From "Jewelry Making" episode DJMK-104

Although any birthstone color can be used, garnet is used here to symbolize wealth and prosperity.

Nancy Dobbs-Owen shares a technique for creating wire-wrapped hoop earrings that can feature any birthstone -- here, garnet is used.

Materials:

1 pair 24 mm endless hoop earrings
24-gauge sterling silver wire- dead soft
3-4 mm semi-precious Rondell beads (with a hole drilled to accommodate the wire)
Wire Cutters
Round nose pliers

1. Pinch the end of a piece of wire to catch the bead

   
   

2. Loop wire around the earrings, then secure it around the bead and wrap the hoop once (figure A) Keep the wire taught during each wrap.

   
   

3. Add a second bead, wrap the earring and continue the pattern until at the end of the earring (figure B).

   
   

4. When there is just a bit of space left, continue to wrap the wire around the earrings to form a coil, securing the wire to the base.

   
   

5. Snip the wire to finish the seams.
