Create your own beaded charms, then add them to a bracelet.
Beki Haley shares a charming technique with host Jackie Guerra. Together, the two demonstrate how beads and crystals can be transformed into a dazzling charm bracelet.

    Materials:

    Sterling charm chain
    Assorted glass beads
    Metal beads
    Fresh water pearls
    Assorted charms
    Sterling silver headpins 22-gauge
    Round nose pliers
    Wire cutters
    Work surface

    1. Lay out assorted beads to be placed on the headpins. Design each one a little different from the next for a unique look (figure A). To allow the beaded headpins to dangle better, alternate placement of large beads at the bottom of some headpins by placing them next to a beaded headpin on which the larger bead has been positioned in the center, with medium-sized beads at the bottom.

    2. Add charms to the ends of some of the headpins by cutting off the head and making a loop to which the charm will be attached. Tip: To minimize strain on wire when forming a loop, bend wire slightly backwards at a 45-degree angle with round nose pliers, then make loop. To open wire to add to charm bracelet, always twist the loop sideways instead of re-opening.

    3. Lay out your design (figure B) to keep it uniform and balanced -- but not symmetrical -- before creating loops and adding to the bracelet chain.

    4. Attach your newly created charms to your bracelet.
