    Waxed Paper Giftwrap

    • Tear off a piece of waxed paper—whatever size you need. If you're wrapping a large gift, it's possible to get extra-large waxed paper.

    • Create some stripes with embroidery floss or embellish with glitter, sequins, yarn or anything else that lays flat. For this project, Michele Beschen chose embroidery floss and thread (figure A).

    • Once your materials are in place, cover with another piece of waxed paper.

    • Lay a flour-sack dishcloth or other thin muslin pressing cloth over the project and iron over the top for about two minutes to get the waxed paper to meld and bind together.

    • Trim the edges, and you have a beautiful piece of wrapping paper (figure B).

    Opaque Wrapping Paper

    • If you want wrapping paper that's more opaque (to hide presents from prying eyes, perhaps), lay out freezer paper shiny side up.

    • Cover the freezer paper with the embellishments you want to use.

    • Place a piece of waxed paper over the top, lay your dishcloth over the paper and iron for about two minutes (figure C).

    Crinkly Wrapping paper

    • Wad up a piece of waxed paper into a ball, then lay it flat. Add your embellishments.

    • Wad up another piece of waxed paper, flatten it and place it over the top.

    • Cover with a cloth and iron for about two minutes.

    • The result: wrapping paper with a unique texture that is also more opaque than regular waxed paper giftwrap (figure D).
