These crafty clutches make any gift special.
We've all groaned over the mounds of gift wrap that build up like snowdrifts during the holidays. It seems like the bows barely have a chance to cool off before they get pulled from the packages and tossed aside.

That won't happen if you follow Michele Beschen's advice and wrap your gifts in something more permanent. This holiday, B. Original and stitch up some quick and easy felt gift bags that look like purses. Toss a gift inside, stick a decorative pin on the outside, and you're giving three gifts in one—and nothing goes to the dumpster! Scroll down for Michele Beschen's easy how-to.

    Small Clutch Bag

    • Pin two felt squares wrong sides together and sew a decorative stitch along all four sides.

    • After sewing, trim away any areas that are uneven.

    • Fold the bottom edge up about two-thirds of the way and stitch up the sides to create a pocket.

    • Insert the gift in the pocket and fold the top flap over (figure A).

    • To finish off with a bow, simply cut smaller pieces of felt into interesting shapes, stitch them together and add a pin to the back. Attach this felt flower to the bag as a bow; it also can be worn as a brooch (figure B).

    • A clutch, a brooch and the actual gift – it's three gifts in one, and nothing gets tossed in the trash!

    Larger Clutch Bag

    • For this bag, you'll need three pieces of felt.

    • Match up two squares of felt and sew them together on three sides. Sew the third piece of felt to the open end—this will be the flap (figure C).

    • Cut the third piece of felt in a scalloped shape for a more decorative flap.

    • Place the gift inside and pin the bag shut with a brooch—preferably one you made yourself (figure D).

    • If you want to make a tote, take two felt squares and add some sides and a bottom, along with a strap. Now you have a bag that will hold an even larger gift (figure E).

    • If felt just doesn't do it for you—or you just can't bear to sew—hit the thrift stores for old purses to put gifts in or scarves to wrap with. Add a brooch, bracelet or some other accessory, and you have the same three gifts in one.
