Make your Christmas a funky one with these cool decorative projects. Samantha Kraft starts off by making a faux fur tree skirt that's embellished with felt appliqués and sequins.
Materials:fabric scissors fabric glue 48"x48" square of faux fur 1/2 yd. of various colors of felt sequin and embroidery floss
Note: You may wish to make a paper pattern before cutting out the faux fur (figure A).1. Cut out a 48"x48" square of faux fur (you can also make this smaller or larger accordingly--measure base of your tree for the best fit). Fold in half, then in half again, and cut off the two outermost edges to round them off. The remaining folded piece should look somewhat like a cone shape. 2. Unfold the fabric and cut a slit from the outer edge to the center. 3. Cut out a hole in the center of the fabric (this hole will allow for the trunk space); again, measure the trunk of the tree to get the best fit possible.
4. Cut random Christmas shapes from felt (e.g., candy canes, Christmas trees, Christmas lights, snowflakes, etc.) (figure B) (figure C).
5. Glue the felt cutouts to the faux fur in any pattern you wish.6. Using embroidery floss, tack down the felt shapes (figure D) and sew on sequins, at random or in any desired order (figure E).
