What's so great about this project is that it really doesn't cost that much to make, and it's easy to do. Also, this is a great project to include your kids in, especially when it's just too dreary to go outside.Materials:
straightedge
cardboard or poster board
1/4" foamcore
craft knife
heavy-duty wool felt
spray adhesive
low-temp glue gun
scraps of trim, felt, pompons, etc.
1. Create a triangle pattern with a straightedge and thin cardboard (you choose the size).
2. Trace the triangle onto foamcore, then carefully flip and trace twice more. The resulting shape looks something like a baseball diamond (figure A).3. Score the foamcore on the two long interior sides; this will allow you to fold it into a pyramid to make the base for your "tree."
4. Use the foamcore as a template: place it on the felt and trace around it, adding about 1" all around the edge. Cut out the felt.
5. Fold the foamcore into a pyramid, using cloth tape or other sturdy tape to secure and reinforce it.
Optional: Place the pyramid on top of another piece of foamcore and trace around the bottom; cut out the triangle with a utility knife and attach to the bottom of the tree with tape.
6. Spray the tree form with adhesive and attach felt, trimming away the excess around the edges.
7. Run a bead of hot glue along the edges and apply trim.
7. Cut various colors and sizes of small circles from felt and use fabric glue to attach to the tree.
9. Attach one large or several small pompons to the top of the tree for a star and to finish the tree.
Optional: Use painted wooded balls to create feet on three corners of the tree.
