    Steps:

    1. Fold an 8-1/2" x 11" piece of red card stock in half to make a 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" piece; then fold once more to create a card that measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". Crease your fold lines very well.

    2. Open the card and on the back side of what was the center fold of the card, you will begin to cut the top part of a heart (figure A). Only begin the cut over the half-circle shape. Hint: You may try this with a lightweight piece of paper until you get the process to where you feel comfortable.

    3. Stop cutting and refold the entire card, but as you close it, pull the top of the heart gently forward. As you close the card all the way, you will create the bottom part of the heart by the creases that will form as the card closes.

    4. When you open the card again, there should be a little open heart there waiting to be filled with flowers!

    5. To make the flowers, cut out a few circles of your choice of colored card stock. You will also need to cut some narrow strips of various greens and a few leaf-shaped greens (figure B). Hint: Your flowers could be simple circles with contrasting circles for centers, or they could be daisies, or tulips--your choice--have fun!

    6. Assemble your flowers--centers on blossoms and blossoms on stems with attached leaves.

    7. Place flowers on the open edge of the heart to arrange your bouquet. Check occasionally to see if you can close the card and that the flowers are not so tall that they extend past the edge of the card. If this happens, the card will not fit in an envelope. Add extra flowers to the back part of the heart against the card, so that your bouquet fills out the space.
