Glittered Milagros Resin Drawer KnobsProject designed by Kathy Cano Murillo. Materials: resin knob molds knob bases easyCast resin loose glitter (the more dimensional in color, the better) industrial strength adhesive small silver Milagros mixing cups, measuring cup, chopstick for stirring mini-straw - Prepare the resin mixture according to the package directions exactly! Don't "eyeball" the measurements because your resin will not set properly.
- Pour a small amount of the resin in the mold, blow with straw to remove gas bubbles.
- Let cure for an hour and lay the Milagros face down on the resin (figure A). Pour another thin layer of resin and let cure for about 30 minutes.
- Pour in the glitter almost to the top of the mold, but not all the way (figure B).
- Now pour in another thin layer of resin. Use the chopstick to move the resin around so it covers all of the glitter. Blow out bubbles with a straw.
- Let set for 24 hours. Pop the knobs out of the mold. Use a file to sand the edges smooth.
- Apply the adhesive to the back of the knob base and to the back of the knob (figure C). Set the base on the knob and let cure for 48 hours before using.
Tips: - Experiment with different kinds of glitters to have a funky set of knobs and handles.
- Print off photos on photo paper and insert them in the wet resin if you like.
- Use the molds to make glitter necklaces or fan pulls.
- Let a layer of glittered resin dry and add a second color to get a layered glittered look.
- If you don't like glitter, use tiny crystal beads or tiny dried flowers.
- Instead of Milagros, add small charms, buttons or gems.
- Use your knobs on kitchen or bathroom cabinets, jewelry boxes and even purses.
