Materials:art canvases (various sizes) 3" mending plates 2" hinges screws screwdriver paint
Note: For this project, your art canvases need to be flat on the backwith no bevels or raised edgesso the hinges and mending plates attach properly (figure A). The canvases also should be the same thickness, for the same reason.- Lay out your canvases face down and decide how you want to arrange them (figure B). Remember, you will need to attach three hinges between each pair of panels. Your panels can be as long or as wide as you like.
- Think about how you want to paint your canvases. If you want to paint them all the same color, wait to paint until after you've assembled the piece. If you want to paint the canvases different colors, do so before you attach them to each other.
- For each panel, link the canvases together by screwing in 3" mending plates (figure C). Make sure to align the holes in the mending plates so you'll have the most stability on the edge of the canvases.
- Link your completed panels with 2" hinges (figure D). Be sure the bottoms of the panels are lined up so the divider sits level. Use three hinges to link each pair of panels, spacing them evenly for stability.
- If you haven't started painting up your canvases yet, now's your chance! Create your artwork however you like: This is an opportunity to bring new colors and energy into a your room. If you aren't happy with how the painting comes out, just prime over it and start againit's another opportunity to B. Original!
