Tools:artificial turf
heavy-duty scissors
permanent markers (assorted colors)
white paint
small squeeze bottle or paintbrush
yardstick
measuring tape
green duct tape
football-field template
1. Measure the width and length of the coffee table with the measuring tape to determine the amount of artificial turf needed. Cut the artificial turf to the appropriate size with a pair of sharp scissors.
2. Use a permanent marker and a yardstick to mark a straight line across the width of the artificial turf for the 50-yard line.
Drawing the Yard Lines1. Divide the length of the artificial turf by 12. The result will determine the number of inches between each yard line. Use a permanent marker, the yardstick and the field template to mark the additional yard lines and end zone.
2. Fill a small squeeze bottle with white paint. To paint the yard lines, gently squeeze the bottle and work your way down the lines until the entire field is painted (figure A).
5. Using permanent markers and the template as a guide, draw the yard-line numbers down each side of the field, centering the numbers over the lines (figure B). The numbers can be painted with the squeeze bottle or a small paintbrush (or left plain, if you prefer).
Adding Hash Marks
Find the center of the width of the artificial turf. Paint hash marks 2" from the center on both sides of the field (figure C). Work your way down the field painting four hash marks in each 10-yard section.
Finishing
1. Apply green duct tape around the entire edge of the football field. This will help prevent fraying and create a finished look.
2. Decorate the end zone and the center of the field with team names or logos, using permanent markers (figure D). You can create templates and download team logos from a computer.
