One idea for shelf edging is to use vintage papers or gift-wrap paper. Cut out the design of the paper and then you can use rhinestones for decoration. Just glue rhinestones to the top of a thumbtack for a fun embellishment (figure A). Attach the paper to the edge of the shelf using the rhinestone thumbtacks. You don't have to worry about gluing it or taping it -- it is fun and easy to do.
Tip: Vintage papers are great flea market finds.
If you prefer a more formal look, use a vintage trim and then attach it to the shelf using upholstery tacks (figure B).
A last idea is to use a grograin ribbon trim (figure C) that you can purchase at your craft store.
