DIY Crafts host Mary Lyon explains how to paint and decoupage rocks. You can use them as doorstops or paperweights or as decorations for a windowsill.

    Materials:

    Rocks
    Paintbrushes
    Acrylic paint
Paper plate or paper to hold paint
Paper cutouts from magazines or wrapping paper (optional)
    Pipe cleaners (optional)
    Mod PodgeB.

    1. Squeeze a small amount of acrylic paint onto a paper plate or piece of paper.
    2. Dip a brush into the paint, and add the desired design to the rock (figure A).
    3. Change paint colors and continue painting.

    Variations

To make a bug, glue on pipe-cleaner legs and wiggly eyes.

Paint a landscape scene on a rock to use as a doorstop.

Apply cutouts from magazines or gift-wrapping paper with Mod Podge to the top of the rock for a decoupaged look (figure B).

Paint lima beans to look like little faces, using red and black felt-tip pens. Add a lima-bean face to the front of a note card, then glue on pot-scrubber hair and a little red bow under the chin (figure C).
