Dolores King's passion for porcelain dolls grew to more than a hobby -- she nows owns her own doll shop!

Dolores King says porcelain-dollmaking is the most satisfying hobby she's engaged in. Each doll, she asserts, has a unique "personality" and lifelike appearance. She admits that the pride her creations bring makes her feel as if they are an extension of her family.

King shares a simple method for making a doll using a fabricated porcelain mold:

    1. Pour liquid porcelain into the mold. Let dry.

    2. Once the doll's body parts have dried, remove from the mold and place in a box filled with shredded paper (to absorb excess moisture from the porcelain).

    3. Next, lightly sand the parts and brush to remove all imperfections.

    4. Bake the porcelain in a pottery kiln to harden.

    5. Finally, assemble and paint the doll parts. The addition of hair and unique clothing completes each doll.
