Ever since Wright's began making a wide version of its gold-mesh ribbon, the company's Pat DeSantis has been unable to stop using it in beautiful crafts. Make your holidays glisten with Pat's gorgeous gold creations.

    Golden Angel

    Materials:

Styrofoam® or wooden ball (1" diameter)
    Clothespin
2/3 yards of gold metallic mesh
    One pair wings
    1/2 yard gold ribbon
    6" length of gold trim
    8" length of gold cord
    Greens, berries, etc.
Gold spray paint that does not react to Styrofoam

    1. Spray-paint the Styrofoam ball (the angel's head) and clothespin; allow to dry.

    2. Glue the ball on top of the clothespin (figure A).

    3. Cut the mesh in two circles, both 11" in diameter.

    4. Place both circles over the head, gather, and tie with gold cord, leaving a loop in the back of the neck from which to hang the angel (figure B).

    5. Glue wings to each side, near the angel's head (figure C).

    6. Tie a bow with a ribbon, and glue right below the head.

    7. Create a halo by making a circle with gold trim, and glue it to the head (figure D).

    8. Decorate with greens, berries or sparkle ribbon as desired (figure E).

    Holiday Ideas

To add even more sparkle to a Christmas tree, cover a clear or colored glass ornament with gold mesh, then tie a mesh scrap around the top to hold it all together. For greater interest, wreath accessories such as small gold-painted pine cones, berries, etc. can be placed where the mesh is tied (figure F).

To create a festive table runner, cut a length of gold mesh long enough to fit the table. Cut each end to a point, add a gold cord tassel to the points, then place the runner over a red or green tablecloth. There's no need to finish the edges of the gold mesh.

Don't take a bottle of wine to a party without making a decorative mesh cover for it. Cut a piece of mesh long enough to wrap lengthwise around the bottle. Using a sewing machine, sew a seam up each side of the mesh, or run gold stitching or cording up the sides by hand. Place the bottle of wine in the sleeve, then add a gold tassel, cording or a bow at the top (figure G).

For the perfect package wrap, use plain paper, and make a bow with narrow gold mesh. Place wreath accessories in the middle of the bow, or add some greens underneath (figure H).

Make a gold-mesh wreath by cutting squares of mesh and threading them on a wire wreath form. Decorate with a gold ribbon bow.
