Carol Duvall, host of HGTV's The Carol Duvall Show, finds her way southwest to the one-of-a-kind doll art featured at Edith Lambert Galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico, part of the Santa Fe Doll Art Symposium of Excellence. The displayed dolls represent originality in craftsmanship and individual expression. They're not only unique but also very valuable. Approximately 50 doll artists participated in the show. Dutch artists are known for fantasy dolls. American doll artists take a more traditional approach. Japanese dollmakers design more abstract dolls. Charles Batte presented a very theatrical king figure, using various textures. Charles described the king as quiet and introspective (figure A). Monica Smith is one of the most sought-after artists. Her signature touch is the use of white laces and silks. This two-figure display is unusual for her (figure B). Adrienne Brown chose the 1760s to create this period doll, whose face was modeled after her eldest son, Christopher (figure C). Ankie Daanen presented her fantasy doll designs (figure D).
