Marie-Laure Coste Dujois has a passion for nature that is evident in her beautiful floral designs. "I grew up around flowers," explains Marie-Laure. "As a child, my vacations were spent studying English gardens with my mother. It was all gardens, all the time," she says with a laugh. One of Marie-Laure's favorite seasonal designs is a magnolia bud wreath created from a coat hanger. A coat hanger is strong enough to hold the branches of magnolia, and it comes with its own hook! Materials: Wire coat hanger Newspaper Floral wire and Spanish moss Branches from a deciduous magnolia Hand clippers Tip: Marie adds color to her wreaths by mixing in clippings from an evergreen trees such as the Asian Pine. For accents, she attaches small bundles of cinnamon sticks with bark covered wire. - Begin creating the wreath by bending the coat hanger in the form of a circle. Cover the hanger with wet newspaper followed by moss and secure both with the floral wire. Do not cut the floral wire until your wreath is complete.
- Now gather a small bundle of the magnolia branches in the form of a "Y" -- as if creating a bouquet of flowers. Next use hand clippers to trim the length of the branches. Cut the branches from underneath and away from you (this angle will hide the cuts once the wreath is hung).
- After cutting the bundle to size place it on the moss and secure with the floral wire.
- Once you have completed the wreath, you may wish to wrap the floral wire around the hook to give it added strength. Then decorate your wreath as desired.
