If you've ever set down a glass at a party only to realize later that you have forgotten where you placed it, then Oma Ford's wine glass charms are the answer. Charms can be purchased in sets for between $25 and $40, however, Oma makes her own for about $10. Then the charms are placed on the stem of the glass as ID bracelets for your guests' drinks. "These are incredibly easy to make," Oma says. "They are often made with charms from a charm bracelet with little motifs or words on them. They looked so simple that I figured I could make them, and so I started. What I discovered was that making them was a lot of fun. Searching for just the right charms is more than half the work, and shopping is always fun." Here's what you do: - Begin with a simple earring wire (figure A).
- Then select a family of distinctive center beads (figure B) such as a butterfly or fish, and the adjoining beads that will go on the ring. Oma usually gets six different colors within one bead family for six wineglasses.
- Next, simply thread the beads onto the wire.
- Lastly, make a small hook with pliers at the end of the wire and attach it to the small loop in the earring wire (figure C).
Your wine glass charm is complete and ready for your next party.
