    Flame Canes

    1. Repeat steps 3-10 on the previous page with the following color combinations: Indian red/sunflower, day-glow/lemon and raspberry/transparent orange.

    2. Roll a sheet of red clay and a sheet of black clay, separately, through the fourth thickest setting of the pasta machine. Cut the black sheet in half. Place the red sheet in between the two black sheets. Roll through on the second thickest setting. Trim the sheet to 1/2" wide and as long as each of the skinner blended rolls.

    3. Position each skinner blend upright; make a slice through the entire cane (figure C). The slice should be 3/4" deep or deep enough to insert the red/black sheet.

    4. Insert the black/red layered sheet into the cut seam (figure D). Press the cane together to reduce air bubbles.

    5. Repeat until all four canes have been inserted with seam.

    Apply Clay to Bottle

Roll black clay through pasta machine on the third thickest setting. Wrap the black clay around each cane and trim away access.

    1. Reduce the canes by rolling with the palm of your hand until each is 1/2" wide.

    2. Using the gold powder, dust sides of each cane with a paint brush until evenly coated (figure E).

    3. Pinch each cane into a teardrop shape with the seam at the point of each cane.

    4. Make thin slices of Indian red/sunflower cane and apply in a row to the top of the bottle. These slices should cover the seam left by the black clay.

    5. Repeat with each cane, alternating between canes until the entire bottle is covered.

    6. Bake according to manufacturer's instructions and allow to cool completely.

    Varnishing Cane Bottle

    1. Once cool, apply Poly Glaze to the black clay only, using applicator. Pull out any air bubbles using a toothpick or tool. Allow to dry completely.

    2. Seal the Poly Glaze with clear nail polish. Allow to dry and enjoy!
