All of Chaney's sculptures reflect his pride in his African-American heritage.

Artist Greg Chaney uses his art to inspire others in his community. Chaney's message to others is belief is one's self. Chaney says: "Take chances, and don't let others' negative opinions about you become your reality."

Chaney, who has 25 years of experience in clay sculpting, says that although it 's an inexpensive hobby, it's rich rewards come from the full investment of energy . Sculptors must use their heart, hands and head when creating.

Chaney uses a variety of tools when working with clay, including: wooden sculpture tools, a smooth-edged butter knife, an ink pen, the end of a paint brush, a construction nail or dentist's tools. He continuously finds new tools, which help him obtain different textural effects and keeps costs down.

Instead of investing in a kiln to fire his pieces, Chaney takes his finished creations to a ceramics shop where each is fired for less than five dollars.
