While in Michigan Carol Duvall, host of HGTV's The Carol Duvall Show, stopped at artist Jerry Berta's diner for a chat. The main topic of conversation? Art can be fun! Jerry explains how he teaches kids to work with clay and to use their imagination. Jerry doesn't use any fancy tools, only a ballpoint pen. Kids often ask what to make. Jerry suggests looking around and making whatever common objects you see. How about a car? (figure A). Jerry encourages kids to be artists. Many parents are skeptical that artists can make a living. Jerry proves it's possible. He formed a '50s-looking armchair and an airplane. Then he put the airplane in the chair: Now, that's imagination! (figure B).
