    Figure B

    Materials (figure A):

    Teacup and saucer
    Wick
    Wax
    Bamboo skewer
    2-cup can
    Saucepan

    1. Prepare the wick and wind the top of the wick around the bamboo skewer so that the bottom sits in the bottom of the teacup and the skewer rests across the top of the teacup, holding the wick upright (figure B).

    2. Place at 1-1/2 cups of wax chopped coarsely into the can. Sit the can in a saucepan with at 2" of water, place on the stove, and heat slowly until the wax melts.

    3. Very carefully pour a bit of the wax into the teacup. Check the wick to be sure it is centered properly, and let the wax in the teacup cool.

    4. Now fill the teacup with hot wax up to 1/2 - 1/4" from the top of the teacup. The wax will take some time to cool. When it does, you will find it has shrunk and that there is a well in the center.

    5. Refill this well with a little more wax.

    6. Let the candle set overnight to be quite solid.

Tip: This is a good opportunity to use an old teacup which may be cracked.

Products: Candle-making supplies can be found in craft stores.
