    Craft expert Kathi Cardinalli shares a few ideas for creating luminaries from hardware materials.


    1. First, select material. Each hardware store will offer decorative aluminum in a wide variety of colors and patterns (figure A). Other options are chicken wire (covered with rice paper) and screen.



    2. Begin with a tin can (for small luminaries) or large coffee can (in which candle has been placed) as the base.



    3. Cut decorative aluminum or screen to desired size and wrap around can so that it meets in the center (figure B).



    4. Feed wire through mesh or openings at the center and twist to secure (figure C).
