In this project, paper petals are used to create the "stained-glass" pieces of a votive holder . DIY Crafts host Debbie Stapley demonstrates.

    Materials:

Round glass votive candleholders with plain sides
    Tissue paper in several colors
    Scissors
    Craft knife
    Decoupage medium
    Shiny black dimensional paint
    Small sponge brush
    Tealight candles

    1. Before beginning, wash and dry votive holders.

    2. Cut 7 or 8 paper "petals" in various colors. (In this project, each petal measured 2-1/2" high x 1-3/4" wide).

    3. Cut 7 or 8 triangles to fit at top of petals (our are 1-1/2" high x 1" wide).

    4. Apply decoupage medium to the glass votive holder and to one side of a petal. Press petal to glass and smooth carefully with sponge brush, so that delicate tissue isn't marred.

    5. Continue adhering petals around entire votive (figure A), then apply triangles upside down to fill in spaces at top of petals.

    6. Apply two additional coats of decoupage medium over papered surface and allow to dry completely (figure B).

    7. Trim away excess tissue at top of votive.

    8. Use black dimensional paint to carefully outline each stained-glass panel and create the look of "leading." Allow to dry according to manufacturer's instructions (drying can take up to 72 hours).
