    Figure C

DIY Crafts host Mary Lyon presents table decorations inspired by nature, including braided-raffia napkin rings and fruit and vegetable candleholders.

    Napkin Rings

    Materials:

    Raffia in various colors
    Clothespins
    Heavy wooden cutting board

Gather strands of raffia together in three groups, each a different color. Secure the ends with clothespins. Place a heavy wooden cutting board on the end to hold the raffia in place, and braid the raffia into a 6" braid (figure A). Bring the two ends of the braid together in a circle, tie strands of raffia around to secure the ends, and slide a napkin through the center of the braid. Let the unbraided portions of the strands flow freely.

    Artichoke Candleholder

    Materials:

    Artichoke
    Knife
    Cutting board

Cut the bottom off an artichoke. Separate the upper leaves in the center with your fingers, and push a taper candle all the way down into the artichoke. If necessary, trim away some of the inner leaves.

    Orange Candleholder

    Materials:

    Orange
    Whole cloves
    Knife

    1. Cut a hole in the top of the orange to hold the candle (figure B).

    2. Turn the orange upside down, and stick a few cloves in a circle around the bottom for feet so the candleholder won't fall over (figure C).

    3. Stick two rows of cloves in the orange around the center horizontally for decoration.
