    Vintage Craft Book Magazine Rack
    Materials:

two hardcover vintage craft books (exactly equal in size)
    craft knife
    quick-hold glue or other epoxy
    binder clips
    ruler
    pencil
    drill and bits
two wooden dowels cut 4" longer than the width of the front cover of the books
wooden spools with holes with diameters slightly larger than the dowels
    craft paint
    ribbon, if desired
    spray varnish

    1. Remove the pages from the books and use the craft knife to carefully remove any paper, binding or glue from the inside of each book's spine (figure A).

    2. Spread epoxy on the outside of the back cover of one of the books and the inside back cover of the other, so that both fronts will form the outside of the rack. Press the back covers together and binder-clip together (figure B). Allow the books to dry according to the epoxy manufacturer's instructions.

    3. Measure the sides and bottom of the rack and cut scrapbook paper to fit these dimensions. Glue in place with additional glue. Glue the side panels first and then center the scrapbook paper cut to size for the bottom panel (figure C). Allow to dry according to the glue manufacturer's instructions.

    4. Use the ruler to measure in 1" down and 1" in from the corners of each front book cover. Mark with a pencil (figure D).

    5. Using a drill bit sized to fit the wooden dowels, drill four holes, one in each upper corner at the pencil marks. Use a block of wood under the book to prevent drilling into your work surface (figure E).

    6. Paint the wooden dowels and beads with craft paint. Allow them to dry. Paint the wooden spools with craft paint, allow them to dry and add ribbon details, if desired (figure F).

    7. Insert the wooden dowels into the drilled holes to form the sides of the rack(figure G). The dowels should be sized to be about 6" longer than the width of the rack. Use glue to attach the dowel into the drilled hole. Glue wooden spools to the ends of each dowel (figure H). Allow them to dry.
