Racetrack Art PieceMaterials: 18" round tray (or similar) black spray paint dimensional paint in yellow, white and red artificial grass corrugated paper colorful scrap paper bubble wrap craft paint in flesh and hair colors fine-tip permanent marker glue stick glue gun toothpicks brown floral tape green scrap paper clear tape scouring pad cotton ball several toy cars sawtooth hanger and E6000 glue (optional) 1. Spray-paint the tray black and let dry completely (figure A). 2. Using white and yellow paint, paint a D-shaped racetrack on the tray and let dry (figure B).
3. Cut a semicircular piece of artificial grass to fit adjacent to the racetrack. Secure in place with hot glue (figure C).
4. To make bleachers with fans, first cut a piece of bubble wrap approximately 6"x3". Paint each bubble with flesh-colored craft paint and let dry. Paint hair on each bubble with craft paint and let dry (figure D). Draw faces on each head with a fine-tip permanent marker. Next, cut a piece of colorful scrap paper the same size as the bubble wrap and glue the front (colorful side) of the paper to the back (smooth side) of the bubble wrap. Using hot glue, glue the bubble wrap/paper to a piece of corrugated paper that is slightly larger than the bubble wrap (figure E). Create triangular supports for the fans/bleachers by cutting two 8-1/2" strips of corrugated paper, folding each one into a triangular shape and securing with hot glue (figure F). Use hot glue to stick the triangular supports to the back of the fans/bleachers.
5. For trees, place 7 toothpicks in a bundle and wrap with brown floral tape to shape the tree trunk. Next, cut out a small (approximately 2"2-1/2") circle of green scrap paper. Cut the circle in half, roll one of the halves into a cone shape and secure with a small piece of clear tape. Squeeze a small amount of hot glue inside the cone and place the tree trunk inside (figure G). 6. For berry bushes, cut a green scouring pad into a bushlike shape. Add "berries" with red dimensional paint and let dry (figure H). 7. Glue bleachers, bushes and trees to the artificial grass; glue cars to the racetrack area (figure I). To simulate a car crash, a cotton ball can be fluffed up to look like smoke.
8. Optional: To hang the racetrack on the wall, attach a sawtooth hanger to the back of the tray (with E6000 glue) and let dry for 24-48 hours before hanging. Note: If you're hanging the finished project, it is best to use plastic cars, as they are lighter than metal ones.
