Liquid Beadz Storage HatboxesMaterials: wood or cardboard hatbox acrylic craft paint DecoArt Liquid Beadz palette knife toothpicks grosgrain ribbon fabric glue optional: wrapping paper and spray adhesive Liquid Beadz stencil (if using a stencil) pencil, graphite transfer paper and printed or drawn design (if doing a freehand stencil) 1. Using acrylic paint, paint the hatbox a base color and let dry.
2. For a stencil-style box, press a stencil on the hatbox lid and apply Liquid Beadz over the top of the stencil, as deep as the stencil. Smooth off any excess liquid before carefully removing the stencil and repositioning in the next desired location (figure A). Repeat application (figure B).
3. For a freehand style, use a pencil and transfer paper to trace designs on the sides and/or top of the hatbox. Lay the design over the transfer paper, graphite side down, and trace the design with a pencil (figure C) (figure D). Use a palette knife to scoop Liquid Beadz from the container and apply to the design, as needed (figure E).
4. Use a palette knife or toothpicks to reposition beads as necessary. 5. Continue filling in the design with various colors of Liquid Beadz. 6. When the design is complete, set the hatbox aside and let Liquid Beadz dry for 12-24 hours. 7. If the beads are too sparse after drying, apply another layer of beads. 8. Glue a ribbon pull through the hatbox slot, if the hatbox has a slot. Apply a bead of fabric glue to the edge of the hatbox lid and apply ribbon trim (figure F). 9. For added polish, spray the interior of the box with spray adhesive and line with wrapping paper (figure G).
