Build a 12"-wide bulletin board that wraps all the way around your child's room. Place it at a kid-friendly height of about 36" from the floor, and when it's done it will look like a decorative frieze. Materials:
Decorative molding with a rabbeted edge Paint or stain Cork board in 12" squares, rolls or tiles Level Spray adhesive Optional: fabric Nails Hammer - Choose decorative molding that will form the top and bottom of the cork-board frieze. Make sure the molding has a rabbeted edge, which has a lip to hold the cork in place (figure A). We're using what is called base-cap molding.
- Paint or stain the molding.
- Determine the position of the bulletin board, and use a level to mark a line on the wall where the bottom of the frieze will go (figure B). We positioned our bulletin board at a kid-friendly height of 36" from the floor.
- Nail the bottom molding in place on the wall. Drive the nails into wall studs.
- Use the cork as is, or add a decorative touch with fabric or paint.
- Lay the cork face down on heavy paper, and spray with adhesive (figure C).
- Drop the bottom edge of each tile into the groove of the molding (figure D ). Repeat with all the tiles.
- Fit the top molding in place on top of the cork, and tack in place (figure E).
