    (Continued from page 2)

The right kind of button can brighten up anything, including an ordinary picture frame. Add a little grout and some paint and your frames will look fabulous in no time. (This technique can also be used on a frame, small clay pot, tea tray, etc.)

    Framed Buttons
    Framed Buttons

    Materials:

    blank frame
    large buttons
    E6000 glue
ultrafine grout (Mapei) in whatever color you want
    rubber gloves (optional)
    sponge
    small bucket of water
    craft paint
    paintbrushes
    putty knife/plastic knife
    bamboo skewers

    1. Glue buttons to the base of the frame in a random pattern. Use a light application of glue (it shouldn't be thick enough to overflow through the button holes onto the frame); using a bamboo skewer to apply the glue can be helpful (figure A) (figure B). Allow the glue to dry.

    2. Mix the grout per the manufacturer's instructions (figure C). Wearing rubber gloves and using the edge of a plastic knife, spread grout over the buttons and frame (figure D). Work grout in between the buttons and let it set up.

    3. Use a damp sponge paintbrush to wipe away excess grout until the tops of the buttons are clean of grout residue (figure E). Set the frame aside to dry.

    4. Add craft paint to the sides of the frame and let dry (figure F).
