  • Beaded Bamboo Curtains
  • They may look like bamboo, but these curtains are full of surprises!
    From "Creative Juice"
    episode DCRJ-101L

These curtains have the appearance of bamboo, but in reality, they're made of plain drinking straws, with a few wooden beads added.

    Materials:

    PHOTO

    Beaded Bamboo Curtains
    240 assorted wooden beads
    1 skein brown yarn
    300 clear drinking straws
    wooden skewer or large-eyed needle
bamboo rod (available at garden centers)
    cup hooks or curtain-rod brackets
    Tacky Glue
    scissors

    1. Decide how long you want your beaded curtain to be by measuring the height of your doorway.

    2. Add 4" to the measurement and cut 20 pieces of the yarn at that measurement.

    3. Cut the straws in random lengths (figure A).

    4. Working with one strand of yarn, tie a bead onto the end to act as an anchor. Using a wooden skewer or a large-eyed needle as a guide, thread a cut piece of straw onto the yarn (figure B), followed by a bead (figure C). Continue threading straws and beads until you have worked all the way up the yarn. Tie a knot at the end to secure. Repeat this step for each strand of yarn.

    5. Measure the width of your doorway. Cut the bamboo rod to that measurement. Using knots, tie the beaded strands to the bamboo rod and evenly space them across the rod (figure D). Use a drop of Tacky Glue to secure in place. Trim away any excess yarn. Attach the rod to the doorway using cup hooks or curtain-rod brackets.
