Hobbyists tend to purchase higher-quality cigars as their tastes grow more complex.
|
Cigar aficionados Sidney and Cindy Zerah have extended their interest in cigars to all areas of their home. Humidors and cigar paraphernalia can be found throughout their house, but a special "cigar room" is dedicated to their passion. This upscale hobby has grown in popularity over the past decade, with magazines, stores, products and salons catering to cigar aficionados. Sidney Zerah offers a few tips for beginners: - The size of the cigar can affect taste as well as the cigar's strength.
- Cigars will never become stale or lose flavor if kept in an environment with 70 percent humidity and a temperature of 70 degrees (a humidor can provide a controlled climate, even in a small space).
- A large humidor is necessary for more serious collectors (who purchase boxes of cigars at a time), but the beginner needs only a small one.
- Good cigars have a rolled end that needs to be snipped off. Zerah uses a small cigar torch to light the end of cigars. He claims that lighting a cigar while puffing it can diminish the experience -- the smoker inhales sulfurs and chemicals without experiencing the true flavor.
