Sometimes a collection is so significant or so large that you may want to work it into your home's decor. Kitty Bartholomew, host of HGTV's Kitty Bartholomew: You're Home, helps doll designer Maryse Nichol display part of a large collection of her beautiful creations in a new apartment. The neutral walls and soft fabrics of Maryse's new apartment provide a perfect background for displaying dolls. Kitty helped Maryse choose more formal dolls with pink and peach in their costumes to blend with the room's color and design tone. A pair of mother-daughter dolls is placed on one end of the mantel, balanced by a large vase of flowers at the other end. The formal tone of the pair complements the French-style fireplace and mantel mirror. A large doll placed on the floor at one side of the fireplace will please any small child. Three dolls are positioned on the glass-topped coffee table. Doilies soften the hard edges of the glass, and a low bowl of flowers balances the display. Choosing objects of different heights adds interest to the sofa table. A tall doll at one end is balanced by a vase of flowers, with a grouping of pictures between the two (figure A). Some of Maryse's most beautiful dolls are showcased on a pair of pedestals arranged next to the sofa. They focus attention on the dolls and add architectural interest as well (figure B). Surrounded with flowers and ivy, Victorian dolls, as pretty in back as they are in front, become a charming dining-table centerpiece (figure C). Placing a doll in front of a mirror permits it to be viewed from all sides (figure D), giving viewers a sense of the whole doll.
