Woman of the Woods was inspired by the Native American story of the same name.
|
Lenore Kilgore's grandfather (a full-blooded Ottawan Indian) and father (a Native American artist) instilled in her a love of traditional Native American art and techniques. Kilgore now carves ceremonial Native American masks, thus helping to preserve both her heritage and traditional designs that originated before recorded time. Kilgore spurns the use of electric hand tools for carving, preferring to use only hand tools and natural materials. She aims to keep her carvings as authentic and traditional as possible and collects materials (such as beads, shells, grasses and animal pelts) that will be used in future designs.
