Stamping expert Grace Taormina of Rubber Stampede explains how to use rubber stamps to make clever T-shirts for kids.

    Materials:

    T-shirt
    Balloon-designed rubber stamp
    Star-designed rubber stamp
    Crystal Pad stamp pad
    Paper
    Dimensional glitter paint
    Cardboard
    Fabric markers

    1. Stamp balloon and star images on paper in different colors. Cut out the images, which you'll use for laying out the design (figure A).

    2. Place a piece of cardboard inside the T-shirt so the ink won't stamp through to the back. Place the stamped paper images around the T-shirt to determine the desired design.

    3. Ink the balloon rubber stamp with the first color of ink, and stamp the image on the T-shirt, removing the paper images as you go. Stamp images of one color first. Then wash the stamp and begin stamping with the next color. Continue until all the balloons are stamped.

    4. Ink the star rubber stamp with one color, and stamp all star images in that color at one time. Wash the stamp and change colors. Stamp all the stars.

    5. Use glitter fabric paint to add strings to the balloons by drawing a wavy line from the bottom of each one (figure B).

    6. Write names or other words on the T-shirt with fabric markers.
